Geez, we get love in spurts and it appears that we are having a spurt. According to Music Connection Magazine, we have made their Hot 100 list of live unsigned bands. Thanks so much to Eric and the cats over there for the recognition. You can check out all of the artists that made the list here or on the logo above. Beforehand, we would like to point out that we are in fact a Detroit band and not a band from Ann Arbor. ;)
That's right, peeps. We were one of 25 artists picked as ROCKWiRED Magazine's Editor's Showcase. You can check it out here or click on the the photo of us above. Thanks to Dj Brian Lush who has been such a supporter and fan of our band. We'll have new material for you soon, Brian!
That's right ladies and gentlemen, you can check out our latest video blog by clicking right here.
So, we decided to enter this contest at the last minute called the Fiat Band Prix. Prizes are as follows: an appearance on Vh1 (meh.) and $10,000 (yeah!). We could finally afford to finish recording our first full length so we can get it out to our fans! To make this happen though, we need your help by voting for us. To vote, click here or on the photo and scroll until you see our name and the photo above. Next, click the download button and download our song "Die for Me" and you are all set! We really appreciate all efforts of voting. So, please, share with your friends and your friends' friends! Make it a voting extravaganza!!
We have a couple White Shag Unplugged dates coming up. On November 17th we'll be rockin' out acoustic tunes and covers at Ashley's new location in Warren. We'll also be playing a short, acoustic set at Pub 1281 for the Rock 4 Tots on 12/8. Come rock with us in our unplugged splendor. You'd have never known a band could rock just as hard unplugged as plugged in.
We thoroughly had a phenomenal time in Austin. We're going to make a video blog about it soon so you'll get the full lowdown on our trip. WE HAD OBNOXIOUS AMOUNTS OF FUN AND COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF ALCOHOL!!! If you can't wait for our video blog, check out some of the pics on Instagram @whiteshagofficial or check out our Facebook page.
Yes, we started a new video blog. You can check it out on our Vids page right along the top of this website.
We're thinking of doing an Indie-Gogo campaign so we can put out a badass new album for you guys to listen to at your leisure, not another whimpy EP. So, we wanted to ask our fans, what kind of rewards would you like to get if you were to donate some dough to the Shag? A White Shag trucker hat? The new album on vinyl? A vocal lesson from Laura? Perhaps performance by White Shag at your house party? The possibilities could be endless!! WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK!! Please comment below!
White Shag is on our way to Austin next week for MEOW Con. We're really excited about this conference and can't wait to fuck around with our Austin friends while we're down there.
Thanks again to Brett Callwood from City Slang. He hooked us up with a spotlight on our trip to Austin at the end of October. Fuck yeah. Thanks, homie! Click here to read it.
Check out our rad interview in Detroit City Limits. You can click on the photo or click here.
We got some new rad t-shirts for men and women at our Bandcamp store. Check out our new "Store" tab at the top and click on the White Shag logo which will take your right to our store!!
Yes, that's right peeps. Tomorrow night we'll be rockin' out with this all female garage rock power trio hailing from Japan. These chicks are awesome and we are honored to be playing with them once again. The Luckouts will also be jumping on board for this show so it will be a night of for sure balls out rock and roll. So come one, come all to the great show of them all!! -This Thursday at Corktown Tavern, 9pm.
Aside from White Shag getting the opportunity to rock with their balls (politely) this year at MEOW Con. Our very own Laura Mendoza will be participating in a panel on women in education. Looks like those brains finally got her some where. This year they'll be honoring the one and only Suzi Quatro so hopefully Laura won't be as drunk as she was the last time she met her earlier this year after White Shag won their first Detroit Music Award. See you in Austin!
Our very own Jorge Cortez was picked as one of ROCKWiRED Magazine's 25 guitarists you gotta hear. Mr. Cortez is always thoroughly rockin' with his balls out so we are certainly proud that he's done that enough to finally get some attention. You can check out the article at the beginning of next month right here.
White Shag is proud to announce that we won't be playing any more originals and will only play Hall and Oates from now on. Our cover songs will also be accompanied by blue ruffled shirts and sky blue dinner jackets and pants. And if you don't like it, you can lick our balls (metaphorical balls in one of our band member's cases).
Cherie Currie and Laura
There's no doubt that White Shag pulled out all the stops and threw their balls (and in one of the member's cases, their "metaphorical balls") out on the table for their show with Cherie Currie this past Thursday night. They destroyed the stage while jumping off of bass drums, speakers and spinning into hyteria while knocking microphone stands at the same time. Laura's wardrobe malfunction made her have to strip to her leather bikini top while Jorge and Joe sweated off copious amounts of energy and rock and roll debauchery onto the stage. If you want to see a review of the entire show, including Cherie Currie's set, check out Real Life Husband's blog here. If you'd like to see evidence of the debauchery, check out one of our fave photogs, Pete Schorn's flickr account here.
From your favorite rockers, White Shag
